Chapter 1 was about a girl name Mina. She saw a stranger. This stranger was a man that will tell them about the town in Texas name Fredericksburg. Where the Germans settled. Chapter 2 Is about if the Germans should stay in Germany or go to Fredericksburg, Texas. What I liked about chapter 1&2. I liked it when she ran into the house (that was chapter 1). I liked it when she was fake being asleep and was listening to her parents talk(that was chapter 2).
Chapter 1: A stranger came on a horse and put a tag on the school door about Texas. Mina was excited about the stranger because he was going to talk about Texas. She and her papa went to hear the stranger talk. The stranger said they would get land to farm if they went.
Chapter 2: The family was deciding if they should go to Texas. Every day it became more obvious that they should go to Texas because papa was losing his land and house in Germany. On the day they were leaving, Mina began to think she didn't want to go because she would never see the people in Germany again.
I like the story so far, but it is sad when Mina is leaving her friends.
Chapter 1 is about when a girl named Mina is at school and a stranger puts up a notice about living in Texas.
Chapter 2 is about when Mina's family decides to move to Texas.
What I liked about chapter 1 is when Mina was talking to her dad about Texas. What I disliked about chapter 1 is when Papa and Uncle Christian were arguing.
What I liked about chapter 2 is when they decided to move to Texas. What I disliked about chapter 2 is when Mina had to leave her friends.
ch.1 is about a girl named mina who comes in her house running and screaming "stranger stranger".CH.2 is about a decion mina and her dad make to go to texas .The sad part is that mina has to leave all of her friends behind when she goes to texas with her dad
Capter 1 is about a girl named Mina who saw a stranger at school. So her papa and mama and her went to go see him. Since papa needs farmland theyre going to Texas. In chapter 2 theyre saying good bye to there family. My favorite part so far is that Mina wants to see the world. posted by, Abigail
In Chapter 1, I liked how Herr Schneider told them about Texas and how many guldens they would receive to go to Texas. Also, in Chapter 2, I liked how they decided to go to Texas and I can't wait to read Chapter 3!
chapter1-I liked how the stranger came to their smalltown in germany to tell them about texas . He said that there was a lot of land to buy for only 600 gulden. chapter2-I thought it was sneaky of Mina to secretly listen to her parents talking about how they might move to Texas. In the end she and her parents took a boat to Texas. chapter 1- there was a girl called mina who lived in germany. a stranger came into the town to tell them of a great oppurtunity to move far away to a place called texas. chapter 2- mina and her parents decide to move to texas to see what it's like.
Chapter -1 Mina came home from school and told her family about a stranger who talked about going to Texas. Later in that Chapter they introduce her cousins Hans and Christine. Chapter-2 They decide to go see the man talk about Texas. Then they think about whether or not they should leave for Texas. Dominic G
A Paradise Called Texas is a very interesting book. In the first chapter, Mina came home from school. She told her family that there was a stranger in the village. In the second chapter, Mina and her family went to go see the stranger. The stranger talked about a place called Texas. One day her mom and dad thought about going to Texas. They decided they would move to Texas. The next day, they said goodbye to her uncle, aunt, and cousins. Then they began their journey. I look forward to reading the rest of the book. Britt
CH 3 = I did not like it when Mina was complaining about the darkness on the ship, but I like reading the german words. Especially "nein" that means no.
In chapter one Mina's hears a stranger talking about Texas. In chapter two Mina and her parents decide to move from Germany to Texas. While Mina was packing up to go Texas she was scared that she would never go back to her homeland Germany. Gina
The first chapter: Mina sees a stranger in the village. She runs to go tell her family about the stranger in the village. The second chapter: The stranger talks about a place called Fredericksburg, TX and says that they can settle there. Mina's family has to decide whether they should stay or go. Brian
In chapter one,I like the part where Herr Schneider tells about how if they go to Texas, they would received a lot of guldens. In chapter two,I don't think it was nice of Mina to listen to her parents conversation.I like how they rode a boat to Texas. I can't wait to see what happens in chapter 3!!! Maygen M.
chapter one is about Mina a german girl. Her life was normal until a stranger came to town.he loked more like a messenger though. He explained the chear land and all the reasons to go to Texas.Mina begged her father to hear him so they did. Chapter two Minas family decides to venture of to texas for only 600 gold coins. Mina's family left first thing in the morning. They first went on wagon then floated of to sea on a boat.
chapter1=Mina wanted to go to Texas, but she did not want to leave her family and friends. chapter2=Mina leaves her family and friends. posted by: erika
Chapter 3: Mina and her family are leaving on the riverboat that will take them to the city called Bremerhaven, where a famous warrior died a long time ago at that spot. There is a statue of him in front of the town hall. They sleep in a huge house with one room where the people are going to get on the boat in the morning.
Chapter 4: Mina gets scared of a dangerous storm while on the boat in the ocean. She was encouraged to not be frightened or be a baby by her papa. When the storm was over they served coffee to the passengers. Mina, mama, and papa try to find their stuff in the huge boat.
Chapter 3 In this chapter, Mina and her family set sail to leave Germany and go to Texas. The Margaretha was not the biggest ship. I thought it was kind of sad when they left their friends and family behind in Germany. They were also going for a brand new life.
chapter 3 _it's sad when they get in the boat and she says "i'll never see Opa again."I would not want to travel on that boat because mina had to use her coat as a pillow.Befor they got on the Margaretha they got on the riverboat in Bremerhaven to pick up all of the passengers. The riverboat was crowed with all of the passengers and their belongings. I can't wait to read chapter 4.Chapters 1,2,and 3 have ben very interesting! Posted By:HANNAH
In chapter 3 I ilke how they pack up and go to the ship and see the Margaretha. And when they were in steerage I couldnt belive that they only had on lamp. Also at first I didnt know what a berth is ( its a bed).I didnt like chapter four because of how they hardley gave you any detail about the storm. and the storm is sorta like theBlack Stallion storm about how the waves were moving in different directions.
Chapter 3 is when Mina and her parents leave Opa. Then, they arrived in Bremen. Once there, they went to look at a statue of Roland, a soldier. After that, they board a boat to go to Texas.
Chapter 4 is when a storm hits their boat. All of their belongings were scattered everywhere.
What I like about Chapter 3 is when they are happy about moving to Texas. What I found sad about this chapter is when Mina and her parents had to leave Opa.
From Chapter 4 I liked when the storm was over. What I dislike is when thy had to go looking for their belongings.
chapter three is about Mina going to Texas heartbroken. At Linden they said farewell for the first and last time. Herr Schneider (The strangers name)had convinced many citizens as she sw it was obviously crowded. At the end of the day they ended their new temporarily routine at verden. Next morning MORE passengers boarded. Mina had to stand ona crate or barrel to see the shoreline. Of course there was one problem, bumps. They were hoping to get to Bremerhaven at the end of the day. chapter four is when Mina awakes to thunder. She woke her parents up. The ship was about to leave. Mina did her daily routine(extravagantly quiqly). Mina sat down on a bench hyperventilating.the Margaretha would sail soon. Captain Libben stood with his hands tight behind him. Mama finally pulled the curtains aside and the Margaretha sailed again as before."Ernst," Mama called to Papa, "I feel sick." Papa held a chamber pot beside her berth."Papa, Papa, the waves will turn us over!" papa disagreed and said the Margaretha was a sturdy ship and the Margaretha sailed by. marisol
Chapter 3 is about the family sailing on the Margaretha. They had to wait for the ship to be ready to sail. I do not think that I would like to travel this way, because there seems to be a lot of people in one area and it does not seem safe.
In chapter 3 i like when Mina and her parents spend the night in a building that opened right into quay-a warehouse. I also liked when the Adlesverein served coffee from the table set up at one end of he room. Gina
In chapter one I liked how the stranger named Herr Schneider went and talked to the people in Germany about Texas. If you wanted three hundred twenty acres you would have to pay a mere six hundred gulden.
In chapter two I liked how Opa was so generous to give Papa his money, to buy land. He gave his moneey to Mina, Mama, and Papa.
ch 1-I loved when mina was so excited to see Herr Schneider and when who papa did not know why she was so excited
ch2-when they introduced all of the German words that was very intresting and i also liked it when they say ja ja [yes yes] and mina gets so excited to move to texas. Louisa
Chapter 5: Mina was washing the dishes on the ship when she asked her mama if she could go play with the other children who were bumping into grownups. Mina went onto the deck where it was nice and warm with a good breeze. She thought she saw a fish come out of the water, but the captain said that it was a dolphin. She asked him if he knew every fish in the world. He told her no.
The next day, the captain said they would reach land any day and have a festival. He asked the passengers to bring a musical instrument. That night, Mina wore her finest blue dress and danced while her papa played the hermonica and danced too.
In chapter 3, I liked how Mina had the courage to move from her hometown to a place she heard of from a stranger. I liked how she was excited about riding the Margaretha. In chapter 4, when Mina was on the ship during a storm, I liked how she was very brave. Britt.
chp3-Mina and her mama and papa are finally getting their stuff in the ship. The ship is called Margaretha. She is still sad about leaving Germany.chp4-Mina is scared that a big giant storm is going to tip over the boat. Then she meets a girl named Anna.Chpt5-Finally the storm is over. The captain says that they will see land. They had a dance. Then they saw land. posted by Abigail
Chapter 3 is about the begining of Minas journey to Texas! In it Mina goes aborad the Margaretha , with her familys own room. In it there is a small kitchen area and benchs for beds. But there were no matteresses so to get to Texas ! they had to bring there own matteresses to the Margaretha. And Mina is very excited
I can't wait to read chapter 4 tommorrow. The book is really good so far but I can't wait to finish it . Hopefully I'll finish it soon! Posted by:BRYNN
I liked the way chapter three was so emotional, but I did not like the way they showed the emotion. Instead of happy they were sad.Mina, Mama, and Papa left Germany and were crying because that was there last days Germany. They had left some of their friends, neigbors, and most of all; their family.Thst day was their last day in Germany and they would never come back again.
In chapter four I bet that Mina and the rest of the people on the ship were very scared when the storm came and rocked the ship back and forth. The storm rocked it very hardly. Atleast Mina did not get sea sick, all because of the storm.
In chapter five I liked how comfortable the ship was for Mina and the rest of the passengers. One day another ship passed by and they held up a sign. It said 61 degrees 15',and under that it said Lat 27 degrees N. they had found land. Kaylee T.
in chapter 3 mina and her parents headed of to texas. it was a sad but exciting time because they were leaving there famiy and friends and would never return again. in chapter 4 they got on a ship to head towards there new home. while on the ship a big storm came and scared them. mina met another girl named anna.
Chapter 5 was about when they get closer to reaching Texas. They also have party on the deck of the boat, which was the part I liked most. What I dislike from this chapter was that they had to wait a long time to reach Texas.
On Chaper 6, Mina and her parents were packing for when they arrived in Texas. They were all excited and I liked that. My favorite part was when they finally placed foot on Galveston, Texas. My least favorite part was when the storekeeper at Kretzer and Maerz, Dealers in Hardware told Papa about the killing and scalping of two German settlers.
In chapter six I liked how they finally arrived to Texas.Mina and Anna were so excited.Papa bought a gun because he thought that Indians would come and scalp them. The cashier said that two men had been scalped the month before in Galveston.
In chapter seven I thought that it was not a very good choice to teach Mina how to shoot a gun, especially at a very young age.Mina disliked Texas alot but she could not go back home. She disliked it because of how lonely in was and it would be hard to live in.
Ch.3 is about a girl named Mina and her family leaving Gremany to go to Texas. She saw the statue of Roland. They switched ships to the Margetha.
Ch.4 is about when a storm comes when they are on the ship. Mina gets scared but her dad encouraged her to be strong. After the storm they went on deck and had coffee.
Chapter 3-It was sad when Mina had to say goodbye to Opa. My favorite part was when she wanted to go see the statue of Roland. Chapter 4-It was tragic when they were is a storm and waves ran into the ship. Then, papa prayed in the boat. The next morning, the waters were calm.
I loved this chapter because Mina found out about Texas. It was so fortunate that she heard the stranger telling everybody about this wonderfull place.
chapter 2
I was happy that Mina's parents decided to go to Texas. It was a very smart choice. I was excited! Allison
It was sad that Mina had to say goodbye to her Opa. She was still excited about going to Texas. The author described their room being very dark and cramped. I bet it was hard to live there.I don't think that brought Mina's spirits down. She seems like a very happy and loving girl. Allie:)
CH3=Is when Mina leaves Germney on a Margehta (A boat, not a big boat) to go to Texas. I is sad when she leaves Opa. In this chpter I think it has lots of infomation Posted by : Rory

CH5= IS when Mina and the rest of the passengers saw a boat passing them and it said" 61 deggeres 15' ,Lat 72 deggeres N . (that ment land) Posted by: Rory*
I liked chapter eight because of the spirit Mina and Annie had, especially on Christmas. They made a Christmas tree out of a ribbon, some candles, and even a long piece of string. After Mina and Annie had finished making the tree everybody sang the song "Silent Night". I thought it was cool when the baby was born on Cristmas. It reminded me of when Jesus was born. There was even a star in the sky. Kaylee T.
In chapter 3, I like how Mina agreeed to go to Texas(a place which she heard about from a stranger).I also like that Mina was very happy when she heard that she was going to ride the Margaretha. In chapter 4, I think that Mina ,her family, and all the people on the boat were very scared.I am very glad that Mina did not get sea sick. She was vey brave during that time and I like that about her. P. S. The margaretha is a boat but not a very big boat. maygen
In chapter 5 I liked how they started talking about the dolphins and how they are really intelagent. Also in chapter 5 I liked how she was learning geography. Also in this chapter I liked how her dad was letting Anna and Mina looking on the map and seeing how far it would take them to get to Texas.
In chapter four Minas mother gets sick there is a terrible storm . And the pots, pans, cups and boxes are flying every where. While the boat is swaying back and fourth , back and fourth over and over again. In the morning every thing is fine again. I really like the book so far . Posted by:BRYNN
In chapter 5 the captin annoced they would have a dance on the deck. Because they were close to the dry land of Texas! So Mina and her parents were very happy and excited.
chapter 4 was about a huge storm that happened in the middle of the night. Mina and her parents were very scared. All night they heard the crashing of waves. They thought they were going to die. Posted by Allie:)
chapter5- when mina was getting tired of days after days passingwith seeing no land. but 1 day they saw land it was the island of santo domingo or haiti. chapter6- was about whaen mina and her parents arrived to an island called galveston. galvaston was a small village at the time.
CH 5= Mina woke up early as usual to see the sunset, when she was up on the deck, she heard a sailor say: "land", "land ho". When everyone woke up they saw the land and the Captain decided to celebrate. When he said that, Mina quickly told her father that he could play the harmonica because the Captain said to bring your instruments and so they dance.
I really liked this chapter because it talked about dolfins. It explained their intelligentes. Also they had a dance to celebrate how close they were to Texas. I bet Mina was very excited when she saw the land. Posted By Allie:)
CH 6= I like it when the seagulls where flying above the posts and i think that was very cool, but scary because the seagulls could tare the cloth on the posts. I also think it was cool to end the chapter with the prayer for dinner of Nina's family.
chapter 3 is when Mina wants to see the ship they are saling on the next day.
chapter 4 is my favorite chapter because Mina acting so excited that she just wants to get on the ship so bad she wakes up her parents up just after she gets dressed
chapter 5 is when she meets a girl next door.then at night a bad strom and Mina is scared that they will tip over
Chapter 5-I liked how they saw the dolphins and the fish jump out of the water.
Chapter 6-I liked the part when they got to Texas and how Texas looked different than back at Germany. In Germany, they had stone buildings and in Texas they had wood buildings.
In chapter 5, I liked how Mina was really excited about going to Texas. I liked how she imagined what Texas would be like. In chapter 6, I liked how Mina wanted to help her father. I liked how she imagined what it would be like to meet an indian. I cannot wait to read chapter 7. Britt.
Chapter 4 - I liked this Chapter - it was exciting when they got into the storm and everyone was scared except for PAPA. He was strong and made everyone else strong.
Chapter 5 - It was interesting to read how, Mina thought what Texas would be like and how excited she was when they first saw land and the mountains. I can't wait to read how they start their trip to Texas.
Chapter 5 was about when Mina saw dophlins. She started to get bored because she was stuck on the Margetha. One of the men saw land (that was the islands of Galveston)and Mina ran to her parents.
Chapter 6 was about Mina and her family making to Galveston. While they were in Galveston,Mina and her dad went to a hardware store. Papa started to look at a gun that the salesman gave to him and then he looked at a shotgun. Then they both ran to Mama and told her Papa was going to buy a gun. JT
Chapter five review Mina was on the Margaretha that it seemed like her home it felt like she had forgotten all the others. Mina lived in a compartment of the boat and saw the children playing outside and bumping into adults. Ana apeared her hair braided neatly. they went to deck and greeted captain Libben. Mina asked the captain if he knew all the fish in the sea, the captain replied "Well, Fräulein, not every one personally.". Mina wished al oud that she wanted to ride a dolphin and Ana laughed. But she really felt that tug on her to try things, to test herself. Papa had a map of the world. Mina started to grow unpatient and wanted to get to Texas soon. It was warm outside, it was 61 deegrees. My favorite part was when Mina tested herself whit her free time. MARISOL D.L.G.
ch4- In this chapter they are on the Margartha and sailing to Texas. ch5- In this chapter they are practicly living on the ship. They are also nearing Texas.
In chapter 3, it was sad when Mina left Opa. In chapter 4, there was a storm that scared everybody on the ship. In chapter 5, I liked when Mina was talking to the Captain on the deck.
CH3- I THINK IT IS sad when mina leaves opa. in ch4- it would be scary to be on a ship in a storm. ch5- i think it is a happy time when they dance. zeresh
chapter 3 was when mina and her parents were on the ship and they go to a country to wait for the next ship , on the way mina sees a statue .chapter 4 was when mina and her parents are on the second ship and mina meets another girl next door her name was anna.chapter5 was when there was abig scary storm . posted by :KayleeH.
In chapter 6, I like the part where Mina is feeding the seagulls and she says"Oh mama, he flew so close".I also like the part where Captain Libben gives the order to the first mate who shouted," Let out the sails." Then,he shouted," Drop anchor". The sails flapped till they couldn't any more. The anchor went splashing into the water and the Margaretha was rocking gently on the smooth waves. Soon it was the Jordans time to leave. Mina took one last look at the boat and Captain Libben before she had to go.Mina started going down the stairs. She was holding Joanna's hand tightly at the crook of her arm. This is why I like chapter 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maygen Mireles
In ch 6 Mina hurts Annas feelings. And they finaley reach Galveston. But when Mina and her father go to buy a shotgun Mina hears that two GERMAN SETTLERS were scalped and killed one month ago in Austin, she becomes scared. I like all of chapter six except for when she hears about the German settlers.
Chapters 6, 7, 8: The family finally gets to Texas. They are almost into the harbor when the anchor is laid down. Rafts come to help the people get to shore. Papa goes to a gun shop and buys a shotgun for protection from the Indians. The family stays in a wooden hotel. The next day they go on a ship to Indian Point.
For three days the steamboat went along the coast line until they got to a wide open area with no trees and no rocks called Indian Point. They put up tents that were very ragged. When they were getting off the boat, someone shouted at them that they didn’t need any more hungry Germans there.
It was near Christmas, so Mina went to look for gifts. She found a black seashell and a dollar shaped white object with a star in it that is called a sand dollar. On Christmas Eve, Mina asked her friend to come with her to try and find something that was shaped like a tree. While they were walking, Mina found a piece of driftwood that was shaped like a Christmas tree. The put the driftwood tree into the middle of the camp. Other people started to decorate it. Everybody gathered around and sang O Tannenbaum.
Ch.4: What I liked in "A Paradise Called Texas is when Mina, her mom, and her dad pray to God so that the ship will not drown. Ch.5: Is about how Mina learns that she is brave. Because her father tells her that she has to face her fears. Gina
Chapter 7 - When Mina is still riding the small boat and Papa teaches her how to shoot his gun. Then, finally they reached Indian Point. What I liked about this chapter is when Papa taught Mina how to shoot a gun, of course without bullets. I did not like when Mina and her parents find out that it will probably be a long time before the Verein comes and takes them to a place where they can live safely.
Chapter 8 is about when Mina is trying to look for Christmas presents for Mama and Papa. She found a black seashell for Mama and a shell with a five pointed design on it that looked like a star. Then Anna and her went to go look for something that looked like a Christmas tree and all of the people of the camp put something on the tree to decorate. I like the Christmas spirit showed in the chapter and whenn Mrs. Kaufmann had a baby. Anna was happy. What I did not like was when they had no real tree to decorate and to use.
chapter 6:):):):) in chapter six Mina Mama and Papa reach Galvenson .Papa buys a shot gun because he was told that a long time ago two GERMAN SETLERS were scalped and killed by indians :( . that is why Papa has to buy a shot gun because he dose'nt want Mama or Mina to be killed.what i liked about this chapter is that they got to Galvenston.what i didnt like about this chapter is when he told Papa about the german setlers who were scalped and killed.Chapter7:):):)Papa shows Mina how to shoot his gun but the gun does not have any bullets of course. They finally got to the indian point.they put up their ugly and worn tents to sleep in.i liked this chapter.Chapter8:):):)in chapter eight mina and anna go looking for christmas preseants.she found a black sea shell that had a desing of a star on it for Mama.then they went looking for something like a christmas tree.and they found something everone put something the thing like the christmas tree.
chpt6-Is about when Mina and her mama and papa finally leave The Margeretha. Before they go to land her and her mama feed the seagulls.I like how her and her friend Anna dance around.I can't wait to read the next chapter. posted by-Abigail
Chpt7-Is about when Minas They finally arive to papa shows her how to shoot a shot gun. They finally arive to Indian Point. But Mina does not feel comfortable
Chapter 7: In Chapter 7 Mina finally gets to Indian Point. But there are already many Germans at the camp. And there is very little food. So they have to hunt for fish, deer, and other edible foods in the woods. Then they have to dig a dugout and they cover it with leaves and sticks. Then they cover that with a big gray blanket. The same one they used when they covered up the doorway on the Margaritha. And Papa teaches Mina how to use his shotgun. I can't wait to read Chapter 8. Brynn;]*#!
chpt8-Is about mina and her friend Anna find a christmas tree. she gives her papa and mama two shells for christmas. but at night her friend Annas mom has a baby. mina is happy that the baby is born. posted by abigail
IN chapter eight Mina and Anna make a christmas tree. Then papa gives Mina a peica of drift wood that looks like a seagull. Then mama gives Mina a cape for Joanna (Minas doll).
Mina gives papa aasae shell with Bethalehams star. And Mina gives mama a black sea shell she found by the sea shore. But all of the sudden they hear a scream , and Anna runs over to Mina & says. "I have a new baby sister."
In chapter nine I thought it was very sad for Mama to die. Mama's real name was Minchen. Mama's last words was "Ernst, you must take Mina away from here". Ernst is Papa's real name. I thought that was so sad. Papa and Mina loved Mama so much and she just had to die. I thought it was very thoughtful that Mina put her seagull that she got from Christmas on Mama's casket. Kaylee T.
In chapter ten I liked how nice the people were, to give their wagon away. Mina is very smart, I think. Mina thought that her family and Annie's family could share the wagon. They took turns walking. They paid one hundred fifty dollars (150) for the wagon and oxen. Kaylee T.
In chapter eleven I thought it was very sad that Annie's baby sister died. She was not even one year old yet. It was so sad. Papa and Annie's dad said the same thing when one of their family members died, "Why did I bring you to this place". Kaylee T.
In chapter fourteen I think it would have been very scary for an indian to come and be face to face with Mina. She had heard that indian's had once scalped two men. She even gave the man, his children, and his wife some of her hair. She thought that they had given her a present for her birthday, and they did not even know it was her birthday. Kaylee T.
In chapter 7, I liked how Mina was very patient to reach Texas. The questions Mina asked her father were very interesting. She wanted to learn many things. She wanted to know a lot about Texas. I liked how she wanted to explore Texas. I liked how Mina and her family made themselves a home at the beach. In chapter 8, I liked how Mina searched for gifts for Christmas. I liked how Mina and Anna made a Christmas tree and everyone gathered around it and started singing. I can't wait to read chapter 9!!!
In chapter seven,I think that it was not a very good idea to teach Mina how to shoot, aim and, fire a gun because she was very young. Mina didn't like Texas a whole lot because it was lonely and she missed her friends. She thinks it is hard to live in Texas with all of the new people, none of her friends with her, and not having her grandparents with her. Maygen Mireles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):):):):):)
I loved chapter eight because Mina and Annie and how they had the spirit and integrity on Cristmas Evening and Day.They made a very baeutiful Cristmas Tree out of some ribbon, some candles and a very long piece of string. After they finished making the tree out of the crafts they had, they sang a song called "Silent Night".I think it was awesome when the precious little baby was born. When the baby was born ,it made me think of how Jesus was born. There was even a star in the sky like it was when Jesus was born. This chapter is awesome, cool, and extravagant chapter so far. Maygen Mireles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):):):):):):)
ch.6:they are3 near texas and finaly goes to it. ch.7:they get on a smoke boat and are going to go to fredricksburg. ch.8it is christmas in fredricksburg.
chapter6-Mina arrives in Galveston with Anna and they talk about Indians while waiting for the next boat, and Papa gets a shot gun. chapter7- Mina arrives and she has to camp out with barely any food. chapter8-It is Christmas and Mina and Anna find a small branch to use as a Christmas Tree.At night Mina crawls out of her tent to look at the North Star but then there was a womans cry and a babys cry which woke everyone up in the camp and Frau Kaufmann had her baby.
Ch 7 = It was funny when Mina asked her dad "will there be food in the indian territory" , her dad said yes, while shinning the shotgun. Then a couple minutes later Mina asked if she could learn how to shoot the shotgun, and Mina's dad look at her in a strange way and say "why", and Mina answer, because "if you are in the fields and a non friendly indian comes when I'm with mom I will know how to shoot a gun". I think it will be kind of scary when you first get into indian territory, when its dark and raining with only a blanket and a tent with no bottom.
Armando said: Ch 8 = I think it was very cool when there was only two days left for Christmas and it also would be scary because they don't have fir trees and ornaments. Because in Germany everything was cover with snow. A happy thing was when one of Mina's friends got a baby sister a couple of days before Christmas. I can't wait until chapter 9 because i guess how would they look at things with out the snow during Christmas.
in chapter 6 i like how they arive in galveston and talk about the indians. also i would carry a gun with me in open area with me to. and if i was in indian territory it would be scary because of there way of doing stuff. Paige B.
chap 6 is when Mina finaly sees Galveston and wants to go on land and can't wait to see the Indian Point.
chap 7 is when Mina and her dad go to a shop and the shopkeeper says that Mina's dad needs to have a gun to shoot indians to be safe. And then Mina wants to know how to shoot a gun and Mina's dad says he will teach her

In chapter 7 I like how the dad is going to teach Mina how to use the gun. And if I was in the Idian Port I also would want to learn how to use something like that. Pige B.
ch6= i like this chapter because they finaly reached Texas. ch7= there was nothing to eat but bread and and warm water, i would have been very hungry. ch8= i feel bad for mina because she wanted to give her parents a good gift but could not think of one. zeresh
In chapter 8 I like how the germans celebrate there Christmas. And the sea shells seem pretty cool when Mina talks about them. Also the one that carries luck with it, it seems facinating. Also with the Kaufmans having a baby would seem pretty aciting having one.
Chapter 7-I liked the part when her father taught her how to use a shotgun. Chapeter 8-I liked the part when Mina gave her parents presents (shells). They were happy.

Chapter 12 - At least no one died in this chapter!
When they got to the village, they found a German. He and his wife said that they could stay in their loft. When Mina went to bed, she felt like it was the softed bed she'd felt since she'd gotten to Texas.
Chapter 13 - When they got to their stopping place and set up their camp and went to sleep, she heard a noise. She put some kindling on the fire which lit up two eyes. She screamed 'There it is!' and her papa shot at it. It got scared and ran away. It was a panther or large cat.

Chapter six My favorite part is when Mina wakes up and greets her family with warm hugs. Then her mother pulls out a buiscuit and offers it to Mina. Mina gladly takes it then a white blur swoops down and the buiscuit is gone. Chapter seven My favorite part is when Mina askes her father if he could teach her how to use his gun.(safely) My favorite part in chapter eightIs when Mina starts wonderin' about christmas and how she would have christmas on the beach and they did Sincerely Marisol de la Garza :-)

Suddenly Mina's papa blurted out 'I think it's time to marry.' Mina started saying 'please say yes'. The lady said yes. And that was THE END.
Ch 9= I think it would be kind of scary when you first see a boat in the midst thinking who would that be, with people screaming the person who's coming, you would know in flash. I think it would be out of the sudden when Mina would come out of the tent and it would start raining and people would start telling her to get back in the tent, when she got back inside the tent, she got on the floor and covered herself with a blanket her mother provided.
Ch 10 = I like it when they talked in german. I was scary and sad when Mina's mom die. She was so mad, that she wanted to be out of Texas. It was not as fun and she thought, because a lot of people are dead.

Then, Mama gets a fever and the doctor says she has a case of pneumonia. Mina went and got Mama broth every day. Then, Mama got sicker and died. In this chapter I liked when Mina and Papa helped Mama to get better. I did not like when Mama died.
Chapter 10 - In this chapter, a man, his wife, and children came on a wagon with oxen. The man said he would sell the wagon and oxen to the highest bider. Mina had the idea that Herr Kaufmann and Papa could buy the wagon and oxen together. They got the wagon and oxen. Then, they say good bye to Mama in her grave and head off to a creek called Chocolate Creek. I like from this chapter when they were able to buy the wagon. I did not like when they had to say good bye to Mama and leave her forever.
Chapter 11 - This chapter is about when they are on a trail to a place in Texas called Victoria. They stop at Chocolate Creek to spend the night and rest. Papa shot a prairie chicken for them to eat at dinner. Then, Elizabeth started to cry and they noticed she has a fever. She got very sick and died. In this chapter there was nothing that I really liked. I dislike the when baby Elizabeth died and that everybody was very quiet and sad because another person died in a short period of time.
Chapter 12 - In this chapter they arrived at the town of Victoria. A man, his wife, and their two children welcome them and invited them to stay in theif home. The wife gave Mina and Anna milk to drink. All of them ate cheese, bread, milk, and jelly. Then, they go upstairs and sleep on corn shuck mattresses. In the morning Mina woke up feeling better and rested. I liked when the people let them sleep in their home. There was nothing that I did not like in this chapter.

In chapter 10 I thougt was cool because, a wagon and an oxen came and they got to bidd on how much money it woul take to get the wagon and oxen to go farther inland to survive. It is also cool to get to travel with a friend and their family.
Chapter 9-It was sad when Mama died from a fever. They tried to give her medicine to help. The funeral was sad too. Chapter 10-I liked the part when the people were bidding on the wagon.
In chapter nine, I think it was very scary, sad,and dissapionting moment when Mina's mama died. Mama's real name is Michen.I would have been very sad if my mom died.I was very sad for Mina. Maygen Mireles!:)
In chapter ten, It is about the wagon and the oxen I think it was the rightprice for the wagon and oxen to cost one hundred and fifty dollars. This chapter is great and awesome. Maygen Mireles!:)
In chapter eleven, It was very sad when Annie's little baby sister dies. Especially when she is not even one year old yet. That was very scary. They said a very special prayer for Elizabeth. That was the sweet part in chapter eleven. Maygen Mireles!:)
In chapter twelve,Hans Schumann is very wonderful. He let Mina,Papa,Annie,Annie's father, and Annie's mother sleep in his wonderful house. This is my favorite chapter so far because it was so genorous of Hans to let them sleep in his house. Maygen Mireles!:)
In chapter 11 it's abot how two families who are trying to go to New Braunfels and trying to survive the heta and if they get sick. But on the trail Frau Kufmans babay dies because of a heat sroke because, it says that her head is really hot and she kept on crying. Then the next day they make a grave for the baby. And when they get back on the trail they see all these gravse and it would be scary to see them.
Chapter 1 was about a girl name Mina. She saw a stranger. This stranger was a man that will tell them about the town in Texas name Fredericksburg. Where the Germans settled.
ReplyDeleteChapter 2 Is about if the Germans should stay in Germany or go to Fredericksburg, Texas.
What I liked about chapter 1&2. I liked it when she ran into the house (that was chapter 1). I liked it when she was fake being asleep and was listening to her parents talk(that was chapter 2).

chapter three is about Mina going to Texas heartbroken.
ReplyDeletechapter four is when Mina awakes to thunder.

She asked him if he knew every fish in the world. He told her no.

ReplyDeleteIn chapter five I liked how comfortable the ship was for Mina and the rest of the passengers. One day another ship passed by and they held up a sign. It said 61 degrees 15',and under that it said Lat 27 degrees N. they had found land.

In chapter six I liked how they finally arrived to Texas.Mina and Anna were so excited.Papa bought a gun because he thought that Indians would come and scalp them. The cashier said that two men had been scalped the month before in Galveston.
ReplyDeleteIn chapter seven I thought that it was not a very good choice to teach Mina how to shoot a gun, especially at a very young age.Mina disliked Texas alot but she could not go back home. She disliked it because of how lonely in was and it would be hard to live in.

Ch3: I liked how Mina thought the statue looked heroic.
ReplyDeleteCh4:I think it would be scarey to sleep on a ship while it rocks back and forth.

In chapter 3, I like how Mina agreeed to go to Texas(a place which she heard about from a stranger).I also like that Mina was very happy when she heard that she was going to ride the Margaretha.
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 4, I think that Mina ,her family, and all the people on the boat were very scared.I am very glad that Mina did not get sea sick. She was vey brave during that time and I like that about her.

Chapter 5 was about when Mina saw dophlins. She started to get bored because she was stuck on the Margetha. One of the men saw land (that was the islands of Galveston)and Mina ran to her parents.

Chapter five review
ReplyDeleteMina was on the Margaretha that it seemed like her home it felt like she had forgotten all the others.

Ch7: My favorite part was when they were making the tent.
ReplyDeleteCh8: I liked how Mina got her parents the seashells as gifts and how she made a Christmas tree.
ReplyDeleteSoon it was the Jordans time to leave.
Mina took one last look at the boat and Captain Libben before she had to go.Mina started going down the stairs. She was holding Joanna's hand tightly at the crook of her arm.
This is why I like chapter 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In ch 6 Mina hurts Annas feelings. And they finaley reach Galveston. But when Mina and her father go to buy a shotgun Mina hears that two GERMAN SETTLERS were scalped and killed one month ago in Austin, she becomes scared.

Will-i-am
Chapters 6, 7, 8: The family finally gets to Texas. They are almost into the harbor when the anchor is laid down. Rafts come to help the people get to shore. Papa goes to a gun shop and buys a shotgun for protection from the Indians. The family stays in a wooden hotel. The next day they go on a ship to Indian Point.
ReplyDeleteFor three days the steamboat went along the coast line until they got to a wide open area with no trees and no rocks called Indian Point.

ReplyDeleteChapter 8 is about when Mina is trying to look for Christmas presents for Mama and Papa.

In chapter nine I thought it was very sad for Mama to die. Mama's real name was Minchen. Mama's last words was "Ernst, you must take Mina away from here". Ernst is Papa's real name. In chapter ten I liked how nice the people were, to give their wagon away. Mina is very smart, I think. Mina thought that her family and Annie's family could share the wagon. They took turns walking. They paid one hundred fifty dollars (150) for the wagon and oxen.

In chapter thirteen I think it was very scary for the big cat came in the middle of the night. It could have killed them.
ReplyDeleteKaylee T.
In chapter fourteen I think it would have been very scary for an indian to come and be face to face with Mina. She had heard that indian's had once scalped two men. She even gave the man, his children, and his wife some of her hair. She thought that they had given her a present for her birthday, and they did not even know it was her birthday.

ReplyDeleteIn chapter seven,I think that it was not a very good idea to teach Mina how to shoot, aim and, fire a gun because she was very young.
ReplyDeleteChapter 12 - In this chapter they arrived at the town of Victoria.

In chapter 9 it was sad because of how Mitchen died ( Minas mom ). It would also be sad if your mom or dad got sick and died to.

ReplyDeleteChapter 10-I liked the part when the people were bidding on the wagon.
In chapter nine, I think it was very scary, sad,and dissapionting moment when Mina's mama died. Mama's real name is Michen.I would have been very sad if my mom died.I was very sad for Mina.

In chapter twelve,Hans Schumann is very wonderful. He let Mina,Papa,Annie,Annie's father, and Annie's mother sleep in his wonderful house. This is my favorite chapter so far because it was so genorous of Hans to let them sleep in his house.
